Military Spouse Appreciation Month

Military spouses are known for juggling everything from doctor’s visits to work schedules ─ all while maintaining a healthy relationship with their service member, who may be deployed halfway around the world. Military Spouse Appreciation Month, in May, is an opportunity to reflect on, and show gratitude for, these “unsung heroes.”

Here are ways to honor and support military spouses this month:

  • Presidential proclamation. The service of the military spouse is acknowledged in a presidential proclamation. The president’s message speaks to the strength and the patriotism of the military spouse and how their commitment to readiness ensures the well-being of our military members.
  • MilitaryINSTALLATIONS events. Military Spouses can enjoy a variety of free activities, such as dance classes, bowling and horseback riding, from the Morale, Welfare and Recreation program at their local installation.
  • The Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program works to assist military spouses in reaching their career goals. Spouses can join the Military Spouse Employment Partnership LinkedIn Group to connect with other military spouses, and participate in hiring fairs, educational luncheons and workshops.
  • The Virtual Military Spouse Symposium, May 15-18, will provide military spouses with job search tactics, networking resources, wellness strategies, and introductions to companies and organizations that hire military spouses. Review the schedule of events, choose the sessions of interest, and register to reserve a spot.

Military spouses not only support our troops, they also support one another. From finding a babysitter or selling property before a PCS to sharing career opportunities, visit the MilitaryINSTALLATIONS and SECO websites to learn about the many resources available to support military spouses.
