Moving

DoD Instruction 1342.22, "Military Family Readiness," July 3, 2012 This Instruction establishes policy, assigns responsibilities, and establishes procedures for the provision of military family readiness services (through the Family Readiness System (FRS), which is comprised of multiple access points, including installation-based family centers). To help support implementation of the DoDI by the DoD Components, this chart outlines the changes made from the December 30, 1992 version of the policy.

DoD Directive 1315.07, "Military Personnel Assignments," January 12, 2005, certified as current April 23, 2007 This Directive addresses assignments and reassignments of service members as they pertain to permanent change of station (PCS) moves.

DoD Instruction 1315.18, "Procedures for Military Personnel Assignments," January 12, 2005 This Instruction outlines the policies and procedures for PCS moves.

Housing

DoD Instruction 1100.16, "Equal Opportunity in Off-Base Housing," 14 August 1989 This Instruction provides policy governing equal treatment for all DoD personnel. Specifically, it provides guidance for off-base housing and enforcement of fair housing practices as required by federal law, which prohibits discrimination against any person because of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, handicap, or familial status.

DoD Directive 1315.07, "Military Personnel Assignments," 12 January 2005, certified as current, 23 April 2007 This Directive addresses assignments and reassignments of Service members as they pertain to permanent change of station (PCS) moves.

DoD Instruction 4165.63, "DoD Housing," 21 July 2008 This Instruction provides broad guidance for military housing requirements in DoD including that DoD shall:

  • Ensure personnel and their families and eligible civilians have access to excellent housing facilities and services generally reflecting contemporary community living standards.
  • Rely on the private sector as the primary source for housing accompanied personnel and use a consistent DoD-wide analytical methodology for calculating the need to provide housing.
  • Make the commander of an installation responsible for the housing programs with broad authority to decide the best use of resources to provide access to housing for military personnel.

DoD 4165.63-M, "DoD Housing Management," 30 September 1993 This Manual contains DoD policy guidance, procedures, and responsibilities on all matters associated with family housing, unaccompanied personnel housing, and temporary lodging facilities.
