Support Services


The individual branches of service provide a number of programs to support service members and their families in managing their personal finances. The following links provide the official service programs for adoption and personal financial management programs in the military.

Army

Army Emergency Relief (AER)  AER is a private, nonprofit organization whose sole mission is to help Soldiers and their dependents. AER funds are made available to provide emergency financial assistance to Soldiers (active duty and retired) and their dependents when there is a valid need.

Army National Guard Consumer Affairs and Financial Assistance  The Army National Guard program provides financial education for Soldiers, civilians, and their families through classes, training, or information.  More information on available classes can be found through the National Guard Family Assistance Centers.

Army OneSource Financial Readiness  Army OneSource is the website of Army Community Service (ACS), the organization that provides family programs and services to members of the Army. This website assists Soldiers, civilians, and their families by providing budgeting and planning calculators, links to information on retirement planning, and on-line financial training, as well as a link to an Internet application which creates a graphic display of a visitor's financial profile.

Army Reserve Family Programs Online Financial Readiness  The Financial Readiness section of this website educates Soldiers and their families by providing them with information related to financial planning, financial readiness training, the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), taxes, and consumer rights.

Marine Corps

Marine Corps Personal Financial Management  The personal financial management program within Marine Corps Community Services that provides eligible personnel with education, training, counseling, information, and referral for personal financial issues.

Marine Corps Financial Fitness Online Resource Center  This website provides interactive financial tools and information designed to assist Marines and their families in controlling their finances.  Topics include financial planning, savings and investing, banking, credit decisions, using credit cards wisely, applying for credit, managing debt, and a "financial fitness checkup" application.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS)  The  Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a private, nonprofit organization that provides financial, educational, and other assistance to Sailors, Marines, eligible family members, and survivors when in need.  Services provided include emergency financial assistance, budget counseling, visiting nurses, and emergency financial assistance to qualifying Marines in the form of a low-interest loan.

Navy

Navy Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) Personal Financial Management (PFM)  Through the Navy FFSC website, Sailors and family members may access information on a wide range of programs focused on adapting to the special demands of military careers and military family life.  The PFM Program within FFSC assists members of the Navy family by providing information, classes, training, and counseling to combat financial mismanagement and to provide proactive training to better prepare Sailors and their families for financial issues that may arise in the future.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS)  The  Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a private, nonprofit organization that  provides financial, educational, and other assistance to Sailors, Marines, eligible family members, and survivors when in need.  Services provided include emergency financial assistance, budget counseling, visiting nurses, and emergency financial assistance to qualifying Sailors in the form of a low-interest loan.

Air Force

Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)  AFAS is a private, nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial assistance to Air Force members and their families, including interest-free loans, grants, or a combination of both. AFAS maintains an open door policy that encourages individuals to apply for assistance when they feel an emergency situation exists.

Armed Forces Crossroads  This website provides a number of resources for service members including information related to family readiness, employment, education, family life, financial health, military readiness, relocation, and transition from military to civilian life. The site offers links to other military and commercial sites related to these and other topics.

Coast Guard

Coast Guard Financial Management Program  As part of the Office of Work-Life, the Coast Guard Financial Management Program strives to provide practical information and financial planning tools to eligible members experiencing financial difficulties.  The website provides information pertaining to eligibility requirements, services and resources, and links to relevant websites.

Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA)  CGMA is a private, nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to members of the Coast Guard community during times of need.  CGMA provides persons associated with the Coast Guard, who demonstrate a financial need, with interest-free loans, personal grants, and confidential financial counseling and referral services.
