To verify eligibility for MilTax services. The data provided is used to authenticate your identity and verify benefit eligibility within the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).

ROUTINE USES:

Disclosure of records are generally permitted under 5 U.S.C. 522a(b) of the Privacy Act of 1974, as amended. To other Federal agencies and state, local and territorial governments to identify fraud and abuse of the Federal agency’s programs and to identify debtors and collect debts and overpayment in the DoD health care programs. Military OneSource services, including MilTax, are available to Defense Department service members, immediate family members and survivors. Eligibility may vary in certain circumstances. Learn who is eligible.

Only medically discharged service members currently enrolled in their service branch’s wounded warrior or seriously ill and injured program are eligible for Military OneSource services, including MilTax. Recent veterans and their immediate family members are eligible for Military OneSource services, including MilTax, until 365 days past end of tour of service, retirement date or discharge date. No. To access MilTax, we now verify your eligibility through the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, or DEERS, by asking you for the information associated with your DEERS record.

The Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, or DEERS, database contains information for each uniformed service member (active duty, retired or a member of a reserve component), U.S.-sponsored foreign military, Defense Department and uniformed services civilians, other personnel as directed by the DOD and their eligible family members. Service members are automatically registered in DEERS but they must register their spouses and other eligible family members. Service members should keep their personal information up to date in DEERS to ensure eligible family members can access benefits. Learn more about DEERS.

You can find your 10-digit DOD ID number on the back of your common access card, or CAC. Or go to the DOD ID Card Office Online and log in to see your profile.

Check to see if you’ve entered all your information into the form correctly. Make sure information is accurate and names are spelled correctly. If your last name is less than three characters or contains special characters, you may need to verify by entering your full Social Security number and date of birth.

We offer the choice to validate your eligibility with your full SSN in case you are unable to validate with options 1 and 2. For example, you may need to use it if you have special characters in your last name or you are using a keyboard with international characters.

We have limited our request to the absolute minimum information required to verify eligibility. The verification process uses the latest in data encryption technology to ensure that your personal information is kept confidential throughout the process. Your information is not stored and is used solely for comparison purposes.

No. The information you provide to confirm benefit eligibility is not saved, stored or shared. Information is used only to authenticate identity.

Verifying your eligibility through Military OneSource’s MilTax page ensures you are accessing the free, MilTax version of the software. Once you’re on the software provider’s website, make sure you see the MilTax logo in the upper right corner.
