SSI for Military Children Overseas

Benefit overview

In most cases, Supplemental Security Income eligibility ends when recipients leave the United States for 30 days or more. But there is a special rule that continues the benefit for children of active-duty service members living overseas.

How this benefit helps

This benefit helps military families by continuing to pay SSI even while they are stationed outside the United States.

Continue to receive SSI while overseas.

Normally, if a child received SSI benefits and moved overseas, they would lose the benefit. But children of active-duty service members stationed overseas may still qualify. Children who are U.S. citizens may also apply for SSI benefits while overseas.
