Your consultant will listen to what your family needs and evaluate what resources your family has already tried.

Guide your family toward the help you need.

Your consultant can give you information about specialized doctors, medical equipment resources, early intervention and special education, specialized summer camps and more. Your special needs consultant can also research resources that can help, such as grants, support groups and in-home care, and refer you to legal support and financial resources. They can also provide you with the Education Directory for Children With Special Needs, which helps military families make informed assignment decisions and easier transitions.

Connect you with services.

Your special needs consultant can conduct three-way calls between you and TRICARE health care and arrange warm handoffs to installation Exceptional Family Member Program Family Support staff or other experts. They can also provide caregiver wellness referrals for support groups, stress management, non-medical counseling and health and wellness coaching as well as other resources.

Consultants are professionals with master’s degrees and extensive experience in the disability field and are trained in military programs.

Consultants will complete a needs assessment and guide your family to the resources you requested or give you other options to consider.

Consultations can cover subjects including special education, the military health care system and TRICARE, special needs estate planning, support for adults with special needs, independent living options, veterans’ assistance, Medicaid, Social Security, secondary dependency and incapacitated adults, referrals to legal and financial resources, wellness support for caregivers and much more.

Active-duty, National Guard and reserve service members and eligible family members can obtain free, confidential, special needs consultations.

Military retirees and discharged service members (if discharged honorably) are eligible for services provided by Military OneSource, including special needs consultations, for up to 365 days after their retirement date, end of tour date or discharge date.

Some members of the Coast Guard, injured service members and family members, as well as individuals who are recently medically retired, are also eligible.
