Benefit overview

Military benefits entitle service members and their families to stay at MWR recreational lodging around the world. From cottages at the beach to cabins in the mountains, you can find plenty of affordable destinations for a great trip. With a little planning, a family vacation is in your sights at an affordable price.

Eligibility for this benefit

Priority and rules for recreational travelers vary by service branch and lodging facility, so check ahead.

The following categories of people are eligible for MWR recreational lodging — this list is not exhaustive:

  • Active-duty service members

  • Defense Department civilians

On the East Coast, check out Shades of Green® in Orlando, Florida, near Disney World®Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area in North Carolina or one of the coastal cabins maintained by the Coast Guard.

On the West Coast, look at Seward Resort in Alaska, Big Bear Recreation Facility in Southern California or Kilauea Camp and Hale Koa Hotel in Hawaii.

Armed Forces Recreation Center hotels and resorts around the world offer a variety of vacation and recreation opportunities for eligible service members and sponsored guests. They offer eligible service members and sponsored guests quality accommodations at affordable prices. Marine Corps Recreational Lodging allows authorized patrons to rent cabins, cottages, spots in RV Parks, and campgrounds in a number of area. Recreational lodging facility rates are often less than comparable civilian rentals, saving patrons money.

Navy Lodge offers TDY and PCS travelers clean, convenient lodging at Navy installations around the world, with the same amenities found in some commercial hotels. The Navy Lodge website allows you to locate a lodge and make reservations.

With 89 locations worldwide, Air Force Inns’ mission is to ensure the resilience of their guests by providing a clean, comfortable room to guarantee a good night’s rest and a pleasant stay. Air Force Inns welcome active duty, retirees, NAF or DOD civilian employees, and sponsored guests.

Air Force Inns also offers the convenience of other base amenities, such as the Air Force Exchange, discounted tickets for area attractions, swimming pools and golf courses, as well as many great MWR activities right outside your door.

Coast Guard MWR operates lodging, camping and recreational vehicle sites throughout the United States and Puerto Rico on Coast Guard installations. Coast Guard Lodging helps authorized patrons by providing an outlet for recreation and by saving patrons money through discounted lodging costs. Department of Defense Lodging provides lodging options for the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Department of the Air Force. Options include guest rooms worldwide, as well as inns and suites. You can find lodging available for active-duty, retirees, DOD civilians, sponsored guests and more. DOD Lodging is located on or near U.S. military installations and is owned and operated by the federal government. Eligible guests can book rooms for travel, temporary duty or for use during a PCS move. Service members and their families are entitled to a variety of travel and lodging benefits.
